THE CONTAINER YARD
Los Angeles, California
The EFG team proposed a transformation of four existing warehouses and two large open spaces, into an arts park and social/cultural center. When completed, the project will total 40,000 square feet of art exhibition space, art studios, retail, food service, education spaces, administrative functions, and landscape courtyards—on a 1.4-acre site in the Arts District of downtown Los Angeles.
Alongside the renovation of the dilapidated buildings and new infrastructure, our architectural interventions are a theme on a single variation: prefabricated steel shipping containers, twenty and forty feet in length. Such containers are transformed into various functions, from art galleries to storage, from retail pop ups to building lobbies, from an elevator shaft to abstract sculpture, and from a bar and café to an office.
